Great Minds Learning Center hosted its 2nd Annual Trivia Battle fundraiser on Tuesday, October 16.  Founder and Executive Director, Marianne Jylha welcomed the audience with gratitude. The event was fantastic and came together with the help and generosity of friends and supporters of Great Minds. The Blandin Foundation again opened their beautiful meeting room for this community event.  Aaron Brown did not disappoint with his clever quips and captive radio voice. Christina Brown worked behind the scenes to prepare and execute an exciting and face-paced competition.

A battle it was!  The scores were evenly matched and at the final wager it was anyone’s game.  The room was filled with a fun and fierce group of contestants, most of whom were returning from last year for a second shot at the top or a chance at redemption.  As MC Aaron Brown announced, the winning team was their own version of the ‘91 Twins, coming from last to first! Team Sixlexics answered the final question correctly by naming the yellow properties in the original game of Monopoly.

Why a trivia contest?

Great Minds Learning Center specializes in instruction for people who have learning disabilities, most often dyslexia.  People with dyslexia typically struggle with reading and spelling due to the physiological wiring of the brain. It is not surprising for people with dyslexia to be exceptionally bright.   Many of the world’s most talented individuals demonstrate the incredible potential of the dyslexic mind- people like Richard Branson, Winston Churchill and Walt Disney. Students of Great Minds receive one-on-one structured language intervention focused on “rewiring” the brain’s ability to readily recognize and apply the rules of language, opening a world of possibility for them.
